Concept artist Iain McCaig says Han Solo spinoff is “by far the best Star Wars script”

July 1, 2016 by Gary Collinson

During an appearance at an Art and Industry of Imagination conference in New Zealand, Lucasfilm concept artist Iain McCaig spoke briefly about the script for the upcoming young Han Solo movie, and was full of praise for the Star Wars Anthology project.

“[It’s] by far the best Star Wars script, and one of the best scripts period, that I have ever read,” said McCaig. “I laughed, I cried, I did all the things you should do when reading a good script. You’re in for a treat.”

Now, it should also be noted that McCaig is part of Lucasfilm and worked on the prequels along with last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so he’s not really going to come out and say “the story is as dull as The Phantom Menace and the dialogue as stiff as Attack of the Clones.” However, there’s certainly some stellar talent involved in the project, and so plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

The as-yet-untitled Han Solo movie will see Alden Ehrenreich taking on the role made famous by Harrison Ford, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie) directing from a script by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. It is set for release on May 25th 2018.
