Kiefer Sutherland reveals that the Flatliners remake is actually a sequel

July 31, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this month it was revealed that Keifer Sutherland has signed on to appear in the upcoming Flatliners remake, where he’d be playing a “seasoned doctor”. Well, it turns out the movie isn’t a remake after all, but rather a sequel, as Sutherland has revealed to Metro that he’s actually reprising his role from the 1990 original.

“I play a professor at the medical university. It is never stated but it will probably be very clearly understood that I’m the same character I was in the original Flatliners but that I have changed my name and I’ve done some things to move on from the experiments that we were doing in the original film.”

The new Flatliners is being directed by Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and will see Sutherland joined in the cast by Ellen Page (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Diego Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), James Norton (War & Peace) and Kiersey Clemens (Dope).
