It may have suffered a torrid time from critics, but audiences have certainly flocked to Suicide Squad, with the film overtaking fellow DC Extended Universe release Man of Steel at the worldwide box office this weekend.
The David Ayer-directed DC supervillain team-up has pushed its worldwide gross to $672.9 million – compared to the $668 million grossed by Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot back in 2013.
Suicide Squad still trails Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by some $200 million, but had the film not been blocked from release in China, one would have to assume that the Worst Heroes Ever would be hot on the heels of the Trinity by this point.

It remains to be seen how much higher Suicide Squad can go, but $700 million looks all but assured.
It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
