NBC passes on Cruel Intentions TV sequel

November 1, 2016 by Gary Collinson

If you were looking forward to Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return as Kathryn Merteuil in the TV sequel to 1999’s Cruel Intentions, then we have some bad news for you as EW is reporting that NBC has passed on the pilot.

There may be some light at the end of the tunnel though, as Sony Pictures Television is apparently seeking an alternative home for the project, which has been created by original writer-director Roger Kumble and would see Gellar returning as the conniving Kathryn Merteuil as she vies for control of Valmont International.

Kate Levering had signed on to play Annette Hargrove, Reese Witherspoon’s character from the movie, while Taylor John Smith would portray Bash Casey, the son of Annette and the late Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe).
