Dakota Fanning joins Daniel Bruhl and Luke Evans in The Alienist

January 18, 2017 by Amie Cranswick

THR is reporting that Dakota Fanning (American Pastoral) has secured the female lead alongside Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War) and Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast) in The Alienist, TNT’s upcoming adaptation of Caleb Carr’s bestselling novel.

The psychological thriller series takes place in 1896 New York, and will see Fanning as Sara Howard, a headstrong secretary at police headquarters who teams up with criminal psychologist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Bruhl) and reporter John Moore (Evans) to investigate a series of grisly murders.

The Alienist is being directed by Jakob Verbruggen (Black Mirror), who also executive produces alongside Cary Fukunaga (True Detective), Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) and Hossein Amini (Drive). Production is set to get underway in Hungary ahead of a premiere later this year.
