UPDATE: Mel Gibson in talks with Warner Bros. to direct Suicide Squad 2

February 15, 2017 by Gary Collinson

With Mel Gibson’s comeback in full swing following the Oscar-nominated Hacksaw Ridge, THR is reporting that he could be set to join the DC Extended Universe, having entered talks with Warner Bros. with regards to directing Suicide Squad 2.

According to the site, Gibson is currently familiarising himself with the material, but Warner Bros. is also considering other directors, including Daniel Espinosa (Life). David Ayer directed the first Suicide Squad, but is now working on the Harley Quinn-led spinoff Gotham City Sirens.

This isn’t the first time Gibson has been linked to a superhero movie, having suggested on several occasions that he’d like to team up with his pal Robert Downey Jr. to direct Iron Man 4 at Marvel. It is perhaps surprising that he’s now in talks with Warner Bros. however, seeing as last year he slammed superhero movies and referred to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as “a piece of shit”.

UPDATE: Gibson has confirmed that he is currently on his “first date” with Warner Bros. about taking on the job:
