Thanos’ role in Avengers: Infinity War, Iron Fist trailer, Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft and more – Daily News Roundup

February 8, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Rounding up yesterday’s big news stories…

THANOS DROPS A SPOILER?

With cameras now rolling on Avengers: Infinity War, we’ve had several actors confirming their involvement in the Marvel epic, but it seems that the Mad Titan himself Josh Brolin may have let slip one surprise guest (if you want to spoil yourself, click here). And on the subject of Thanos, Marvel supremo Kevin Feige has been discussing his role in the film, stating that “you could almost go as far as to say he is the main character.” Read Feige’s comments in full here.

IRON FIST TRAILER ARRIVES ONLINE

2017 is a big year for Marvel fans; we’ve got Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, The Defenders and The Punisher to look forward to, but Nextflix is set to kick things off next month with the release of Iron Fist, and the official trailer made its way online yesterday. Watch it here.

ALICIA VIKANDER: TOMB RAIDER

With production finally underway on the long-gestating Tomb Raider reboot, we’ve had our first look at Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander as the iconic video game character Lara Croft thanks to a batch of set photos showing the actress in action. Take a look here.

PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING FIRST LOOK

And speaking of first looks, John Boyega has shared the first official image from the giant robots vs. giant monsters sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising, featuring his character Pentecost Jr.; check that out here.

PARAMOUNT PICTURES KILLS JASON VOORHEES

He’s survived everything that’s been thrown at him across twelve movies, but it looks like Paramount Pictures has hammered the final nail in the coffin of Jason Voorhees, with the studio pulling the plug on the next instalment of the Friday the 13th franchise. Filming was set to get underway in the Spring, but it seems Paramount has balked at the $21 million budget, particularly in the wake of the disappointing box office returns for its latest horror sequel Rings. It’s probably not The Final Chapter for the horror icon though -the rights are due to revert back to New Line Cinema, which could offer A New Beginning. And hopefully no more delays and false starts…
