The Strangers 2 to begin production this summer with Johannes Roberts directing

February 6, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It’s been a long while since we heard anything about The Strangers 2, the planned sequel to the 2008 home invasion horror, but now comes word from THR that The Other Side of the Door director Johannes Roberts has signed on to helm the film, with production set to get underway this summer.

“The Strangers redefined the home invasion genre by perfectly combining character and terror in a way that we rarely see,” said Mark Lane, co-founder of The Fyzz Facility Pictures. “This is a sequel that has been eagerly awaited and we are delighted to deliver it to the fans.”

The sequel has been written by original director Bryan Bertino and Ben Ketai (The Forest) and “follows a family whose road trip takes a turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park and after the power goes out they decide to hunker down for the night in a borrowed trailer. Under the cover of darkness three familiar masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test their every limit.”

The Strangers starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple terrorised by a trio of masked assailants. It was a solid hit, grossing over $80 million from a budget of just $9 million. Production on the sequel was originally slated to get underway in 2011, with Liv Tyler returning for a minor role. It is unclear at the moment whether she remains attached.
