Deadpool 2 writers say “it’s been phenomenal” working with new director David Leitch

March 21, 2017 by Robert Kojder

For those worried or unsure of what to think regarding Tim Miller departing as the director on Deadpool 2, being replaced by John Wick helmer David Leitch, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have some positive words of reassurance on the shakeup.

Speaking to IGN, the duo said: “It’s been phenomenal, David has his own, you know, point of view that’s different from Tim’s. He comes into a situation obviously where there already exists a tone and a style, so he’s going to stay pretty close to that, I think. But at the same time, he brings a new approach and it’s enlivened us definitely to try new things and to do things a little bit different from the first Deadpool. Not drastically, but enough that you get the sense that it’s coming from a slightly different team. We love Tim Miller to death, we also love Dave now. I think you’ll be very satisfied with what we’re cooking up. We are loving our script right now, and the direction that it’s headed. So I think audiences hopefully will be pleased.”

As yet, Deadpool 2 is without a firm release date, but is expected to hit cinemas at some point in 2018, with production starting this Spring / Summer. John Wick co-director David Leitch takes over from Tim Miller, who left the project due to creative differences, while Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) has been cast in the role of Domino.
