Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Princess Leia actress open to return for future movies

March 14, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The actress behind the digitally de-aged Princess Leia in Rogue One is open to returning to the part in the future.

There has been a lot of hoopla regarding Disney’s de-aging/resurrection technologies used in Rogue One: a Star Wars Story. Bringing back Peter Cushing for the role of Tarkin and having a young Carrie Fisher turn up as the iconic Princess Leia.

This is a controversy that has only grown since the passing of Fisher, with many fans worried that Disney might try and bring her back for future Star Wars instalments.

Well the actress — Ingvild Deila — who was behind all that computer wizardry for Rogue One is open to returning to the role should she get the call. She spoke to Jaime Stangroom about the possibility in a recent YouTube interview.

“I would be lying if I said no. It would be great. Really scary at the same time because she’s such an iconic character and I really, really respect and admire Carrie Fisher and who she was. There would be two very big shoes to fill, you could never replace her”.

Deila obviously understands the delicate nature of such a prospect and holds the utmost respect for the role and for Fisher. With all the outcry about any such possibility it seems unlikely to happen at this point but at least we know Deila wouldn’t reject the chance outright if the opportunity arose.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story sees Gareth Edwards (Monsters) directing a cast that includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Diego Luna (Milk), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises), Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Alan Tudyk (Con Man), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler), Genevieve O’Reilly (Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith), Jimmy Smits (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), James Earl Jones (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope), Valene Kane (The Fall), Alistair Petrie (The Night Manager), Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Episode IV – Return of the Jedi), Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones) and Jonathan Aris (Sherlock).
