Sony announces Black Cat and Silver Sable Spider-Man spinoff movie

March 23, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Not content with extending its Spider-Man universe with a Venom movie, Sony is reportedly dusting off another long-gestating spinoff, with THR reporting that the studio is officially moving forward with a Black Cat and Silver Sable spinoff.

The project was first announced as a spinoff from The Amazing Spider-Man back in 2014, and the studio has now tapped Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) to rewrite the original script from Lisa Joy (Westworld). As with Venom, Matt Rolmach and Amy Pascal are producing the film, while Marvel Studios will seemingly not be involved.

The site reveals that both the Venom and the Black Cat / Silver Sable movie “are not offshoots from the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming but rather projects spun from the overall franchise and based on Sony’s Marvel’s Spider-Man universe.”

Given that they won’t be tied to Homecoming, it begs the question whether both movies will take place in the same universe as each other, and whether Spider-Man will exist in said universe. And if he does, will it be a different wall-crawler to the MCU’s Tom Holland?
