Captain Marvel directors revealed, Aladdin casting update, Spider-Man in Avengers 4 and more – Daily News Roundup

April 20, 2017 by Luke Owen

MARVELOUS

Peyton Reed had let it slip earlier in the day, but Marvel and Disney officially announced Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) are set to helm Captain Marvel. The script for the movie, written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), has been praised by Marvel Studios and it was deemed good enough to seek out someone to direct. MARVELOUS COSTUME

We also got word on what Captain Marvel’s costume will look like, which you can read here.

FROM A CERTAIN POINT OF VIEW

Since Disney purchased Lucasfilm and announced a series of Star Wars spin-off movies, there have been various reports and rumours that Ewan McGregor would be returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for a solo outing. Some news outlets claimed there would be a trilogy of movies, and one even went as far as to say an official announcement would be made at Star Wars Celebration. Of course, none of this has happened. McGregor himself has been vocal about wanting to return to a galaxy far, far away, but it seems that nothing is on the table at the moment. But McGregor now has revealed that no discussions have taken place, and a spin-off movie doesn’t seem likely. Read more here.

BLACK PANTHER AND ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

If that wasn’t enough Marvel Cinematic Universe news, some journalists were allowed to go into Marvel Studios to see sneak peaks about what they’re currently working on. That included, among other things, a look at unfinished Black Panther footage and Ant-Man and the Wasp concept art. Read the full report here.

SPIDER-MAN NO MORE?

It took many by surprise when it was revealed that Sony might look to end their deal with Marvel over the use of Spider-Man after Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has confirmed Spidey will be in Avengers 4, but that is “as far as it goes” for the character in the MCU. Oof. Read more about that here.

BAYWATCH

Check out a new poster for Baywatch here.

ALADDIN-SANE

Guy Ritchie is pushing ahead with his live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin and along with an open casting call for its leads, reports are suggesting Will Smith (Suicide Squad) could be in line to play the Genie. Read more about that here.
