Comic Book Review – Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds #5

April 19, 2017 by Villordsutch

Villordsutch reviews Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds #5…

The blockbuster event of 2017 continues here as the fight for the future of the Green Lantern Corps erupts! Can Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise stop Sinestro from conquering the planet Oa for himself? Or is it too late to stop the green light of Hal Jordan’s ring from fading forever?

At the end of the last issue – Star Trek / Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds #4 – we witnessed the antagonists of this tale, Sinestro and Khan, make their moves in securing both the Oa and the Planet Qo’noS for themselves (respectively).  Thus leaving Kirk, the Ring-Bearers and the Enterprise stuck between the rock of the Universe and the hard place of the Federation to protect.

With Kirk making the ultimate decision – much to the frustration of McCoy – to take the Enterprise to Oa and assist the Ring-Bearers in regaining their lost-power and hopefully stopping Sinestro before it’s too late; this leaves Khan to open diplomatic channels with the Klingon High Council, by crushing numerous skulls and shattering Bat’leths before he offers them the Federation.

Meanwhile away from this bloody and brutal usurping on Qo’noS, another wave of destruction is occurring on Oa as Sinestro is introducing the Guardians to the powers of the yellow ring.

This entire comic could be summed up with the word, “Wow!”

Bloody, powerful, brutal, energy-charged, frantic, shocking and of course wow.  Mike Johnson’s penultimate issue for Star Trek / Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds is outstanding! From the classic McCoy/Spock bickering with Kirk trapped between them both in the opening panels, to the violent & bloody images of Khan and the Augments occupying the High Council, then on to the sacking of Oa, before the “Cheshire Cat smile” inducing closing image.  Wow!  I’ll say it again -Mike Johnson has delivered something outstanding!

To add the perfect bow to this comic we not only get wonderful art and colours from Angel Hernandez and Mark Roberts, but we are given two excellent additional covers from both Hugo Petrus and Chris Mooneyham.

Star Trek / Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds #5, is a truly excellent comic and anyone that has been involved in bringing this to the shelves needs to give themselves a well-earned thumbs up.

Rating: 10/10
