Diane Lane confirms Justice League return, defends Batman v Superman’s Save Martha scene

April 22, 2017 by Gary Collinson

This probably won’t come as much of a surprise, despite Warner Bros.’ best efforts to keep Superman out of the marketing material, but Diane Lane has confirmed that she will be reprising her Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice role as Martha Kent in November’s Justice League.

“I don’t think I’m allowed to talk much about it,” said Lane in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “But it was good for me, selfishly, to have a reunion with everyone and meeting some of the new characters.”

The actress was also asked for her thoughts on Batman v Superman’s much-ridiculed ‘Save Martha’ scene, dismissing the criticism and stating that she found it appropriate for the story: “It’s the compassion for a man who’s lost his mother. When you understand the wound, you can work better with people.”

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf, and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) and Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
