Rumour: Mr. Robot creator in talks for Star Wars Anthology movie

April 22, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Although Disney and Lucasfilm have been keeping their post-Star Wars: Episode IX plans tightly under wraps, we do know that the studio is beginning to map out the next 15 years of Star Wars movies, and that we could get an announcement on a new Anthology film as soon as this summer.

As we await some official news, Omega Underground is claiming to have some intel on one potential Anthology project, with the site reporting that Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail has been having meetings with Lucasfilm with regards to writing a standalone movie.

According to the site’s sources, Esmail is likely talking to Lucasfilm about the long-rumoured Obi-Wan Kenobi solo movie – which a previous rumour had claimed would have been announced at Star Wars Celebration earlier this month.

Ewan McGregor has expressed his interest in an Obi-Wan movie countless times, although just this week he revealed that he’s had no offer from Lucasfilm, and that: “I don’t think it’s going to happen soon if it happens at all.”

Keep in mind that we’re likely to be inundated with rumours, speculation and outright guesswork as to what Lucasfilm may have in store for the galaxy far, far away over the next few months and that much of it will likely come to nothing.

Still, should this rumour prove true, would you be excited about the prospect of a Star Wars movie from Esmail? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
