Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will write and direct Invincible film

April 4, 2017 by Ricky Church

After The Walking Dead’s massive success on television, fans of Robert Kirkman have wondered whether another of his comic book series Invincible would ever get a live-action adaptation. Well, it seems that is now set to happen as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will write, produce and direct an Invincible feature film for Universal.

Created by Kirkman in 2003, Invincible is the story of high school student Marc Grayson, whose father is the world’s mightiest superhero – Omni-Man. After inheriting his father’s powers and learning of their alien ancestry, Marc has to deal with what it means being the son of a superhero and the responsibility of protecting Earth at such a young age. The series has been Image’s second longest title, now having 133 issues, after The Walking Dead.

“For nearly a decade I’ve had to endure the ‘what about Invincible?’ question as fans have watched The Walking Dead grow into the multi-media monstrosity it has become over the years,” Kirkman said. “The answer was always that we were waiting for the right team to partner with. That team has arrived! The esteemed misters Goldberg and Rogen have proven themselves to be top-notch directors with a keen collective eye for stunning visuals after slumming it by writing hit after juggernaut hit.”

“Invincible’s surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn’t be in more capable hands,” he continued. “With the team of Rogen, Goldberg and Universal, I’m very confident this will be another superhero movie, in a long line of superhero movies that continues to prove that it’s a viable, thrilling genre that will keep people coming to the cinema for years to come.”

Rogen and Goldberg are no strangers to the comic book world. Not only are they fans of the genre, but the pair are behind AMC’s Preacher, based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. Rogen also starred as the title character in 2009’s adaptation of The Green Hornet. The duo have also worked together on This Is The End and The Interview.

No word yet on when Invincible will enter production, but hopefully we will find out soon.
