Thor: Ragnarok’s Hela could play huge role in Avengers: Infinity War

April 12, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The villain for this year’s Thor: Ragnarok – Cate Blanchett’s Hela – could be up for a big role in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

Fans got their first look at the latest Thor movie this week with the release of a trailer that seems to have gone down a storm. And Hela herself looks like she could be quite the opponent come the movie’s release.

What may have perhaps been the most shocking reveal from the trailer is that Hela was able to destroy Thor’s mighty hammer, a feat that not many are able to achieve. Often it is only those that have no soul that are able to control or break the hero’s signature weapon.

Theorised by Comicbook.com, this, along with her pale appearance and dark garments, have led some to believe that she may be the MCU’s take on the character Lady Death. And it doesn’t seem terribly unlikely that the character is actually an amalgamation of a number of female villains.

So if this is indeed the case, this suggests that Hela could be up for a mighty important role come Infinity War.

For those that don’t know, Lady Death is the would-be lover of Thanos – Infinity War’s big bad – but Lady Death refuses to love Thanos despite his unrelenting desire for her.

To try and impress Lady Death, Thanos vows to serve her by killing relentlessly. We have already seen evidence of Thanos’ murderous rampage in the MCU — some will remember the sad story of the death of Drax’s family in Guardians of the Galaxy.

So it seems very possible that Hela could be a new version of Lady Death, and actually the being egging Thanos on in his quest for the Infinity Stones. Following this line of logic, it would be no surprise to see her turn up during Infinity War with a pretty sizeable role.

Whether this ends up checking out, we will have to wait and see. Avenger: Infinity War will be released in April 2018, while Thor: Ragnarok opens this November.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk alongside Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge and Sam Neill in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on October 27th in the UK and November 3rd in the States.
