Bryan Singer passes the torch to new X-Men director Simon Kinberg

June 15, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Bryan Singer has given his blessing to the director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

News arrived yesterday that Simon Kinberg would be directing the next X-Men film in the franchise, Dark Phoenix.

Singer has been perhaps the most influential person on this particular movie franchise, having directed all but two of the main team movies.

But he hasn’t wasted any time giving his blessings to Simon Kinberg (who has previously worked as a writer and producer on the franchise), posting this photo to his instagram, passing the torch to his successor.

This isn’t the first time that Singer has directed two back to back X-Men films and then handed off to another director to make a Dark Phoenix movie; this was the scene when Brett Ratner took over for X-Men: Last Stand.

That particular movie isn’t remembered too fondly by fans so audiences will certainly be hoping for a different result this time around.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will begin shooting in Montreal next month for a November 2nd, 2018 release date. Set to feature in the cast are franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), alongside Jessica Chastain as Lilandra.
