Misfits getting U.S. remake from Freeform, four leads cast

June 6, 2017 by Ricky Church

The British show Misfits, about a group of young offenders who gain super powers after a freak electrical storm, is about to get the U.S. remake treatment.

Per Deadline, Freeform has ordered a pilot for the remake that comes from Fake Empire’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. iZombie‘s Diane Ruggiero-Wright has already written the pilot and will act as showrunner. Freeform has already cast four of the five leads for the series in Ashleigh LaThrop (Siren), Tre Hall (Rebel), Allie MacDonald (Orphan Black) and Jack Cannavale (Nurse Jackie).

Lathrop is playing Alicia, “a spoiled, vapid, middle-class party girl who seems to have three main goals in life: have fun, look hot and get guys.”

Hall has been cast as Curtis, “a talented and cocky football player with a promising career ahead of him who is used to everything going his way.”

MacDonald portrays Kelly, a “tough and trashy” character” who is “street smart with a hair-trigger temper and a penchant for beating the crap out of people.”

Cannavale is set to play Nathan, “a con artist and thief with a heavily inflated sense of his own attractiveness, intelligence and potential.”

Schwartz, Savage and Ruggiero executive produce alongside Howard Overman, creator of the original series. Murray Ferguson of Clerkenwell Films, who also produced the original, is on board as well. The pilot will be directed by Victoria Mahoney, who will be making her directorial debut.

The original Misfits ran on E4 for five seasons from 2009 – 2013 and initially starred starred Antonia Thomas, Iwan Rheon, Lauren Socha, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Robert Sheehan.
