Terrifying indie darling Little Nightmares is being adapted for TV, with Henry Selick directing

June 13, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Well, that didn’t take long! Little Nightmares officially released for PS4, XBox One, and PC back in April to positive reviews, and already the title is being adapted into a television series. The game will be adapted by Joe and Anthony Russo, who are the minds behind the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War; the two will serve as executive producers for the series.

The project is a result of production company DJ2 Entertainment noticing the game prior to its release, and partnering with Bandai Namco while the game was in development. The Russo brothers eventually won out on a bidding war for the rights to adapt the title.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pilot episode will be directed by none other than The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick. At this time, Selick is only attached to the pilot episode, but the article does state that there is a possibility of the director returning for future episodes. Game Publisher Bandai Namco will also be involved in some capacity.

Interestingly, the article doesn’t mention any involvement from the game’s developers Tarsier Studios. Hopefully the producers don’t shut out the developers completely, as their direct involvement will likely be crucial to nailing the tone of the game they created.

With an adaptation of Castlevania already in the works, this is an exciting time for gamers. Will Little Nightmares be animated or live-action? Given Henry Selick’s pedigree (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, James and the Giant Peach), it seems likely we will see something in his signature style.

In Little Nightmares, players take control of a little girl named Six. Using only her wits, Six must escape the underwater Maw, a terrifying tower under the sea. In order to escape, however, she must contend with the terrifying inhabitants within; Some who consider her nothing more than an entree.

Little Nightmares is available now on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam.
