Jodie Whittaker cast as the Thirteenth Doctor in Doctor Who

July 16, 2017 by Villordsutch

After months of speculation finally today, at the close of the Wimbledon, it has been revealed by the BBC that the Thirteenth Doctor will be played by the actress Jodie Whittaker.  Millions will already know Whittaker from the hugely successful crime drama Broadchurch, which also starred former Time Lord David Tennant.

Numerous guesses had been made at who may be taking up the mantle of the 13th incarnation of the most famous Time Lord, with Kris Marshall thought to have been the favourite after suddenly departing Death in Paradise.  However, names including Olivia Coleman (also from Broadchurch), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and Tilda Swinton (Doctor Strange) were also strongly tipped, before Whittaker’s name suddenly appeared yesterday and became the firm favourite to win the coveted role.
