John Simm says “you never know” when asked about The Master return in Doctor Who

July 4, 2017 by Samuel Brace

John Simm, who has just returned to Doctor Who for its season ten finale, isn’t yet ruling out another appearance in the popular sci-fi series.

First appearing as The Doctor’s nemesis The Master back in 2007, the actor returned for ‘The Doctor Falls’, and while he was mortally wounded at the season’s end, we didn’t see the Time Lord regenerating, leaving the door open for Simm to one day return.

Simm said the following to Doctor Who magazine (via Den of Geek) when asked about coming back once again:

“You know what, I don’t know. I mean, I wouldn’t have thought in a million years that I’d be back [in 2017], yet here I am talking about it, so never say never. So you never know. This thing called Doctor Who is a machine that just sort of goes on its own. It’s got its own rules. And if they want you back, then great. I would definitely think about it.

“Will they ask? I doubt it. But I don’t know. I mean, I’m very, very lucky to have worked with two Doctors. Two brilliant, brilliant actors. So if not, I will count myself blessed to have been asked back; to have played him these two times. That’s wonderful. And we shall see. Who knows? Yeah, never say never. That’s very true.”

There you have it; Simm certainly isn’t closing that door himself. So we will just have to wait and see if the actor’s talents are required for another outing…
