The First Doctor joins the Twelfth Doctor in the Doctor Who Christmas Special 2017

July 1, 2017 by Gary Collinson

As revealed in this evening’s series ten finale of Doctor Who [read our review here], this year’s Christmas Special will be a multi-Doctor adventure which sees the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) joined by the First Doctor (David Bradley) in what will be Capaldi’s final outing as the Time Lord. Here’s the first two promotional images showing the two Doctors together, courtesy of the BBC…

The cliff-hanger ending saw the Doctor fatally shot by a Mondasian Cyberman and begin to regenerate. Stepping out of the TARDIS into an arctic landscape, he fought off the glowing regeneration energy and fell to his knees, vowing that this time he would not live on and change into a new Doctor. This was declared “ridiculous” by an approaching figure, who mocked the Doctor as he stepped forward through the snow to reveal himself as the very first incarnation of the Timelord (“The original, you might say”) just before the credits rolled. The story will continue at Christmas.

The Christmas Special will mark the first multi-Doctor episode since the 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor in 2013, and sees David Bradley portraying the First Doctor following his role as William Hartnell in the BBC Two drama An Adventure in Space and Time.
