Wonder Woman 2 officially announced, Geoff Johns writing the script

July 22, 2017 by Justin Cook

In news that should come as a surprise to no one, Warner Bros. announced during their Hall H presentation that Wonder Woman 2 is officially in the works. Gal Gadot is confirmed to be reprising her role as the titular character, but outside of that, very little is known about the project. Although a deal has not been inked yet, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is expected to return for the sequel as well.

A day before the San Diego Comic-Con panel, Geoff Johns, Chief Creative Officer at DC Comics and Wonder Woman co-writer, revealed to Yahoo! Movies that pre-production on the sequel is underway. He said, “I’m working right now on the Wonder Woman 2 script. I just started.”

Johns has even met with Jenkins to discuss potential “story points,” making her return all the more likely.

Today, Wonder Woman will become the highest grossing film of the summer (domestically), zooming past Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (which still has a larger worldwide total). Wonder Woman smashed every expectation put on it by box office pundits and has been holding better than any superhero movie of the past 15 years, indicating that they’ll be plenty of audience interest in a sequel.

There are few no-brainers in the superhero genre, but Wonder Woman 2 is certainly one of them. As of now, the film doesn’t have a release date; more details about the film will slowly be released in coming months.

Wonder Woman can next be seen in Justice League, which Gadot and her co-stars attended Comic-Con to promote.
