‘Eastwatch’ sets new Game of Thrones ratings record

August 16, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It may be plagued with leaks at the moment, but the seventh and penultimate season of Game of Thrones is proving to be an enormous success for HBO, with its latest episode ‘Eastwatch’ setting a new overnight ratings record.

The episode pulled in 10.7 million viewers, beating the previous week’s record of 10.2 million viewers, and the earlier record of 10.1 million viewers set by the season seven premiere. This number is expected to grow considerably through HBO’s various repeats, streaming services and DVR playback, with the first two episodes of the season having both been seen by over 30 million viewers each.

This coming Sunday’s episode ‘Beyond the Wall’ has also leaked online today after being aired in error by HBO Spain; given that it sees Jon and his band of brave warriors heading north of the Wall and promises a showdown with the Army of the Dead, expect another ratings record.
