Orlando Bloom to lead Amazon’s fantasy series Carnival Row

August 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in May it was announced that Amazon has given an eight-episode order to Carnival Row, a new fantasy-noir series from Rene Echevarria (Star Trek), Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim) and director-producer Paul McGuigan (Victor Frankenstein), and now comes word that Orlando Bloom has signed on to lead the cast of the show.

Variety reports that Bloom will play Rycroft Philostrate, “a police inspector investigating the murder of a faerie showgirl on Carnival Row, a neo-Victorian city in which mythical creatures, fleeing their war-torn homeland, have gathered. Rycroft is not supposed to care about the death of another faerish refugee, but he does, and getting to the bottom of what happened to her will come at a big cost.”

The project marks Bloom’s first series regular role on TV, although he has made several guest appearances over the years in the likes of Casualty, Midsomer Murders, Extras and Easy. He is also set to serve as producer on the series.

Carnival Row is scheduled to begin production later this year, and will hit the streaming service in 2019.
