Kate Winslet to lead English-language voice cast of anime Mary and the Witch’s Flower

THR is reporting that Kate Winslet is set to lead the voice cast of Mary and the Witch’s Flower, the first feature from Studio Ponoc, an anime studio founded by former Studio Ghibli veterans Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Yoshiaki Nishimura.

The film, directed by Yonebayashi (When Marnie Was There), is based upon British author Mary Stewart’s book The Little Broomstick and revolves around a young girl in a school of magic. Winslet will be joined in the voice cast by Jim Broadbent, Ruby Barnhill, Louis Ashbourne Serkis and Ewen Bremner.

Mary and the Witch’s Flower opened in Japan in July, and has grossed over $27 million to date. UK and U.S. release dates are yet to be revealed.
