Syfy orders George R.R. Martin’s Nightflyers

September 14, 2017 by George Chrysostomou

With the success of Game of Thrones it’s been inevitable that some of George R.R. Martin’s other successful properties would be picked up for the screen, and according to Variety, Syfy has grabbed the next series from the multi-talented sci-fi and fantasy author, giving a series order to Nightflyers.

Previously adapted to film in 1987, Nightflyers sees the crew of the titular ship racing to the edge of the solar system in order to contact any life which might be out there. As more and more dangerous events start to occur, the crew begin to question one another as they attempt to try and survive their journey.

Dan Cerone (The Blacklist) will serve as the showrunner on Nightflyers, with Mike Cahill (Another Earth) set to direct the pilot epsiode from a script by Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train).

It will be interesting to see whether, much like Game of Thrones, the series will expand away from the books, or whether it might incorporate elements from Martin’s other sci-fi works.
