Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence reunite as The Karate Kid sequel series announces cast and details

October 25, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in August it was announced that Ralph Macchio and William Zabka are set to reprise their roles as Daniel LaRusso and his Cobra Kai nemesis Johnny Lawrence for a TV sequel to the 80s classic The Karate Kid, and now thanks to EW we’ve got a look at the two actors reunited!

The new series, entitled Cobra Kai, picks up thirty years after the duo’s legendary showdown at the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. Daniel is now a family man and proud owner of the No. 1 car dealership in the Valley, while Johnny has fallen on hard times and is now a heavy drinking, short-fused antihero, doing odd jobs to make ends meet. However, their rivalry is reignited when they re-enter each other’s lives, which drives Johnny to rediscover his Cobra Kai roots and reopen the infamous karate dojo.

In addition to Macchio and Zabka, Cobra Kai will feature Courtney Henggeler (Mom) as Amanda, Daniel’s wife and business partner, Mary Mouser (Freakish) as Samantha, Daniel and Amanda’sa daughter, Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood) as Miguel Diaz, a boy struggling with bullies who joins the Cobra Kai dojo, Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor) as Johnny’s son Robby Keene, and Ed Asner (Elf) as Johnny’s stepfather Sid Weinberg.

Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine) and Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold and Kumar) and is slated to debut on YouTube Red in 2018.
