The story for Mindhunter season 2 is set to include the Atlanta child murders.
Mindhunter season 1 debuted this past weekend on Netflix and has garnered a pretty strong reception from critics – currently sitting at 78 on metacritic and 96 on Rotten Tomatoes.
The new series, with nearly half of its episodes directed by David Fincher, tells the partially true tale of the FBI’s first foray into the world of behavioural sciences; where two agents tour the country interviewing some of the most disturbing killers in American history.
Real life psychos that the show has so far featured include Edmund Kemper and Richard Speck.
Season 1 of the Mindhunter teased an upcoming storyline revolving around Dennis Rader ‘The BTK Killer’, but season 2 will also tacked the Atlanta child murders, revealed by Fincher to Billboard.
“Next year we’re looking at the Atlanta child murders, so we’ll have a lot more African-American music which will be nice. The music will evolve. It’s intended to support what’s happening with the show and for the show to evolve radically between seasons.”
These murders took place between 1979 and 81 and resulted in 28 victims. The real life murderer was actually captured by the FBI agent that Jonathan Groff’s character Holden Ford is based on.
In the late 1970s two FBI agents expand criminal science by delving into the psychology of murder and getting uneasily close to all-too-real monsters.
Mindhunter premiered on Netflix on October 13th.
