Quentin Tarantino shopping his Charles Manson script to studios, with extra tight security

October 29, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Having parted way with The Weinstein Company in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment and assault scandal, Quentin Tarantino is currently seeking a new studio for his upcoming ninth film, based upon the infamous Manson Family murders.

After an early draft of his script for The Hateful Eight was leaked online, Tarantino is taking no chances this time, with The Wrap reporting that the filmmaker is making studio executives go through a complex process in order to bid for the rights.

Executives from the likes of Warner Bros., Universal and Paramount have been invited to the offices of Tarantino’s reps at William Morris Endeavor, where they can then make initial bids for the theatrical rights. A second round of discussions will then see the studios pitching Tarantino directly.

According to the report, an unnamed company has already made an “aggressive” offer to pick up the film, script unseen. Meanwhile, it is also said that Netflix and Amazon are not in contention, which isn’t surprising given Tarantino’s penchant for traditional theatrical distribution.

Details on Tarantino’s plans for the project are being kept tightly under wraps, although it is said that the film will “explore the tragedy and cultural phenomenon of Manson, his followers and the famous victims of their cult violence.”
