There has been a lot of speculation concerning whether or not Luke Skywalker will turn to the dark side in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The suspicion isn’t unwarranted, either; we have had hints for a while now — through various marketing for the film — that this could very well be the case. However, according to Mark Hamill himself, we can all put that theory to rest. Talking to Disney Insider, the Star Wars legend confirms that Luke Skywalker is one-hundred percent NOT turning to the dark side in the film:
“In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Luke has lost confidence in his ability to make good choices. It haunts him to the core. But he hasn’t gone to the dark side. This isn’t an evil version of him. But it’s still an incarnation of the character I never expected. It has pulled me out of my comfort zone. It’s a real challenge.”
That type of reaction seems to be the overall consensus for The Last Jedi among the cast: that the film is surprising, and a bit unexpected. Which should be exciting for those who thought The Force Awakens was a rehash. Needless to say, it will be very interesting to see what ends up on screen this December.
