Black Widow solo film may happen as Marvel hires screenwriter

January 11, 2018 by Ricky Church

One outspoken desire among fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially lately with the massive success of last year’s Wonder Woman, is to see Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow lead her own solo film. And it seems that is now one step closer to becoming to a reality.

Variety reports that Kevin Feige has met with several candidates to write the film, and has reportedly chosen Jac Schaeffer as the movie’s potential screenwriter.

Schaeffer is an up and coming screenwriter who has penned The Shower, a spec script that caught the attention of Anne Hathaway. She first met with Feige before meeting other Marvel executives who explained what they wanted from the film. These talks apparently took place around Thanksgiving, though the film isn’t quite official just yet.

Black Widow is still in the very early stages of development as Marvel hasn’t fully greenlit the film. They have been keeping very tight lipped about the films that will be in Phase Four after Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel, which is currently filming, are completed. A couple films we do know of are Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with director James Gunn returning and a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Schaeffer is also writing a script for Nasty Women, a female-centric take on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels which Anne Hathaway is also attached to. In the meantime, Johansson is reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff in Avengers: Infinity War.

Are you excited to finally see Black Widow potentially get her own film? What would you like to see from it? Let us know below…
