Gary Oldman would like Joaquin Phoenix to play Batman after Ben Affleck

January 9, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Once Ben Affleck steps aside, former Gordon actor Gary Oldman would like to see Joaquin Phoenix take up the role of Batman.

Oldman, who is known for a slew of roles including playing Jim Gordon is Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy opposite Christian Bale’s Batman, has recently been picking up awards for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour and has now chimed in on Batman’s future.

We know that Affleck probably isn’t going to be playing Batman for all that much longer and Oldman at least would like to see Joaquin Phoenix step into the role, telling as much to TooFab at the 7th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards.

“I would like to see someone like Joaquin Phoenix play it. This is no disrespect to Ben Affleck. I think it really depends on who is at the wheel that lifts it.”

As yet, Affleck is yet to commit to returning as The Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and rumours have suggested that both Jake Gyllenhaal and Jon Hamm are being lined up as possible replacements.

What do you think? Would Phoenix make a good choice should Affleck depart? Or would you rather see someone else in the role?
