Joe Russo says Steve Rogers “isn’t exactly Nomad” in Avengers: Infinity War

January 17, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Last summer, it was rumoured that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers would be taking on a new alias in Avengers: Infinity War, suiting up as his one of his alternate comic book alter egos – Nomad – after laying down Captain America’s shield at the end of Captain America: Civil War.

Evans himself added to the speculation this past weekend, signing both ‘Cap’ and ‘Nomad’ on a Captain America shield during an appearance at Arizona’s ACE Comic Con. However, we now have confirmation from Infinity War co-director Joe Russo that Cap won’t be Nomad exactly, but will be “in the spirit of that character.”

“Our approach to the [Steve Rogers] was to deconstruct him, to take him in a different direction,” Russo told Fantasy Focus Football. “Obviously you can’t deal with a character called Captain America without dealing with the thematics behind that, so we wanted a relevancy to it and we wanted to put him in a position where he was questioning the chain of command. You’ll see into these Avenger films, he’s is on a very specific journey as a character. Some people have suspected that he may be Nomad heading into Avengers 3 and I wouldn’t say that he is exactly Nomad, but he is the spirit of that character.“
