Rumour: Jake Gyllenhaal reportedly a lock for Batman if Ben Affleck leaves

January 15, 2018 by Jordan Jones

Well, it looks like Matt Reeves may have found his new Batman! Well, perhaps… maybe. This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard Jake Gyllenhaal’s name in connection with the upcoming The Batman trilogy, but a new rumour suggests that the role is waiting for Gyllenhaal if Affleck ultimately decides to abandon the cowl. Revenge of the Fans recently cited an unnamed ‘source’ that had this to say on the subject of Jake Gyllenhaal becoming Batman:

“Gyllenhaal is probably Batman. Affleck is not out of it yet. That’s the thing, he still has a contract. But the studio is sour on him. If Ben rolls, Jake is in. Kind of a weird web. These guys both know they control each other’s destiny.”

This has just been a mess all around — for both Warner Bros. and Ben Affleck — so maybe it’s time for both parties to part ways? Affleck has had his chance to play Batman, and has done quite well in the role, but things just haven’t materialized evenly around him. In a better film? Who knows. Maybe Ben Affleck would be exceptional, and it would definitely be cool to see Ben’s Batman in a really well-written trilogy. However, he sounds a bit fed-up these days in interviews, which isn’t surprising, given all of the negativity surrounding the DCEU since its inception.

Now, Gyllenhaal is a strong actor, and would make a great Batman (though I know many of you are rightfully rooting for Jon Hamm). Maybe Affleck can take on a directorial role in the DCEU? After all, that was the original plan. Either way, don’t take this news as confirmation. Rumours will come at a whirlwind pace regarding Batman casting, and there is no official word that Affleck is out.

…You can find Jordan on Twitter, and Facebook.
