This past week we got our first real look at Deadpool 2 with the arrival of a new trailer for the hotly-anticipated follow-up to 2016’s blockbuster X-Men spinoff [watch it here].
Following its release, comic book writer Rob Liefeld – who co-created both Deadpool and the newly-introduced Cable – spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the movie where he compared it to James Cameron’s Aliens in terms of upping the ante and spectacle.
“Deadpool was Alien,” said Liefeld. “It’s brilliant. It completely works. It’s a masterpiece. Deadpool 2 is Aliens. It’s when James Cameron came in and said, ‘OK you want me to do this? We’re going to make it bigger, put in loads more action.’”
With John Wick and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch at the helm, it would certainly seem like we can expect to see some impressive action sequences in Deadpool 2, and given the success of the first movie, Fox has presumably given the filmmakers more money to play with – the first movie having been produced on a modest $58 million budget.

Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as the film’s villain, and Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider), Eddie Marsan (Atomic Blonde), Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) and Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on May 18th 2018.
