Jake Gyllenhaal’s new Netflix movie adds Stranger Things actress to its ensemble

March 12, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

Currently shooting in Los Angeles, Dan Gilroy’s untitled Jake Gyllenhaal Netflix movie has been fleshing out its ensemble cast, most notably with the addition of Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler in the hit streaming show.

Variety reports that Gilroy, who memorably directed Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler, has also added Fresh Meat‘s Zawe Ashton, Journey’s End‘s Tom Sturridge, Toni Collette, The Get Down‘s Daveed Diggs, and John Malkovich, to a cast that already included Rene Russo.

It will have to have a big cast, with Gilroy revealing last year that it was to be a Robert Altman style sprawling ensemble. He told Business Insider the following:

“It’s set in the world of contemporary art in Los Angeles. It’s got a Robert Altman-like large ensemble cast. It’s got a The Player vibe to it. There’s a large cast and we’re moving around from person to person as we move through this world. The story is being told through these different characters… It’s not a drama. It’s opening Halloween next year, that will give you some indication what kind of movie it is.”

At time of writing there is no release date, but expect this to drop sometime towards the end of 2018.
