Three weeks out from its release, Deadline is reporting that official tracking on Marvel’s superhero epic Avengers: Infinity War is pointing to a domestic opening weekend in excess of $200 million.
This figure would comfortably surpass the previous April record holder Furious 7 ($147 million), and put it in line with the three-day weekend of Marvel’s previous release Black Panther, which debuted to a whopping $202 million in February.
Given the event feel of the movie – which brings together virtually the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe – Disney and Marvel must surely be hoping (and quietly confident) that Infinity War tops the $207.4 million opening weekend of 2012’s The Avengers, which remains the superhero studio’s biggest domestic opener to date, and the fourth biggest of all time behind Jurassic World ($208.8 million), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220 million) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million).
