Disney’s live-action Mulan adds two to its cast

With Walt Disney Pictures and director Niki Caro (The Zookeeper’s Wife) gearing up to begin filming this summer, THR is reporting that the live-action remake of Mulan has added Utkarsh Ambudkar (Pitch Perfect) and Ron Yuan (Marco Polo) to its cast.

The new additions join the previously announced Liu Yifeu (The Chinese Widow) will play the title character, a young female warrior who disguises herself as a man in order to join the Chinese military, sparing her elderly father from service. Also featuring in the cast are Donnie Yen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Jet Li (The Expendables), Gong Li (Ana) and Xana Tang (Filthy Rich).

The animated Mulan movie was released in 1998 and featured Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Ming-Na Wen as the voice of Mulan alongside Eddie Murphy and B.D. Wong. It grossed over $300 million at the worldwide box office.

Filming on Mulan is slated to get underway in August, with the production shooting on location in China and New Zealand. The movie is scheduled for release on March 27th 2020.
