Ewan McGregor set for World War II comedy The Cow

May 13, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Variety is reporting that Ewan McGregor has been cast in The Cow, a remake of the classic 1950s French comedy La Vache et le Prisonnier (The Cow and I), which will reunite the actor with his Stay and Christopher Robin director Marc Forster.

Scripted by Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory), The Cow will see McGregor portraying a U.S. pilot in Britain’s Royal Air Force who finds himself shot down over Germany. Trapped behind enemy lines, he concocts a plan to escape into France with the aid of a cow, Marguerite, who becomes his rescuer, confidante and companion. Ultimately however, he is forced to choose between a path to freedom that will consign Marguerite to certain death, or a course of action that will save the animal that saved him.

“Ewan is very well known as a dramatic actor and [has] always been great at that, but he is also very good as a physical comedic actor and he will also bring that,” said Forster, who first acquired the rights to the remake over a decade ago. “It’s a road movie in a sense and will have that pacing, and at the same time it is by nature comedic. The backdrop is the reality of a war, and they come across moments and circumstances that remind you of that. But their relationship is very humorous, intimate and emotional.”
