Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing could be resurrected at Fox

May 5, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

A year after its surprise cancellation by ABC, Deadline is reporting that Fox is in talks to resurrect the Tim Allen-headlined sitcom Last Man Standing for a seventh season.

According to the site, Allen has closed his deal to return as star and executive producer, and talks are currently underway with the creative team and cast members. It is said that the show’s return is by no means a certainty, as there are still many deals to close, while series regulars Nancy Travis and Hector Elizondo are presently tied to other projects.

Fox is said to have expressed an interest in rescuing Last Man Standing last May, but was unable to fit the show into its schedule. CMT also had early talks to pick up the series, but those fell through.

The renewed interest is said to be spurred on by the success ABC is enjoying with its Roseanne revival, given that both it and Last Man Standing feature central characters who are political conservatives adhering to traditional American values.

Last Man Standing sees Allen portraying Mike Baxter, a conservative sporting-goods executive whose traditional values often clash with those around him. The show ran for a total of 130 episodes across six seasons on ABC, and enjoyed solid ratings right up to its cancellation.
