Segun Akinola takes over as composer on Doctor Who for series 11

June 30, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Big changes are afoot for Doctor Who in the upcoming eleventh series. We’ve got a Thirteenth Doctor, as Jodie Whittaker replaces the outgoing Peter Capaldi, as well as a new showrunner in Chris Chibnall.

Well, we can now add a new composer to that list too, with Segun Akinola (A Moving Image) taking over from Murray Gold, who has been with the series from its relaunch. Akinola will score the series, as well as producing an all new take on the iconic Doctor Who theme.

“Welcome to the Doctor Who family, Segun Akinola,” said Chibnall announcing the appointment. We’re over the moon Segun’s agreed to join us, to provide the score for the next phase of the Doctor Who adventure. From our very first conversations, it was obvious Segun was a passionate, collaborative and delightful human being as well as a fantastic and bold composer. We’re looking forward to introducing the world to his exciting and emotional soundtracks for the Thirteenth Doctor.”

Series eleven of Doctor Who is set to get underway on BBC One later this year. A Doctor Who panel is being held at San Diego Comic-Con in July, at which point we may well get the first trailer.
