New Line picks up rights to Train to Busan remake from producer James Wan

September 29, 2018 by Gary Collinson

New Line Cinema has come out victorious in a hotly-contested bidding war for the rights to the English-language remake of the hit South Korean zombie movie Train to Busan.

The film is being produced by James Wan through his Atomic Monster banner, with Gary Dauberman (The Nun) penning the script. New Line snapped up right rights amid fierce competition from Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures and Screen Gems.

Released in 2016 and directed by Yeon Sang-Ho, Train to Busan follows a workaholic father and his young daughter who find themselves struggling for survival on board a train travelling from Seoul to Busan during a zombie outbreak.

In addition to the English-language remake, Yeon has recently revealed that he is working on a sequel to the original film, which is going by the working title of Bando (English: Peninsula).
