Susan Kelechi Watson cast alongside Tom Hanks in You Are My Friend

September 17, 2018 by Gary Collinson

This Is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson has become the latest addition to the cast of the upcoming Fred Rogers biopic You Are My Friend, reports Deadline.

The film, which is being directed by Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl), sees Tom Hanks portraying the beloved star of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, and explores Rogers’ friendship with journalist Tom Junod, played by Matthew Rhys (The Americans).

The logline for You Are My Friend reads: “In the heart-warming story, a cynical journalist begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed.”

Watson will next be seen in the third season of NBC’s This Is Us, which is set to premiere on September 25th.
