Joker set photos offer first look at Thomas Wayne, Shea Whigham discusses his role

October 23, 2018 by Gary Collinson

We’ve been inundated with photos from the set of Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Joker over the past few weeks, but in addition to more shots of Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, the latest batch of spy images also offer up our very first look at Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne – a character who is rumoured to be key in Arthur’s transformation into the Clown Prince of Crime. Check them out via the Twitter link below…

Meanwhile, during an interview with Collider, actor Shea Whigham has offered some details on his role, revealed that he plays a Gotham cop alongside Bill Camp:

“[Bill Camp] and I play two cops from Gotham P.D., in 1981 when the city was tough,” said Whigham “We’re investigating something that’s just happened, at the start of the piece. We’re trying to get to the bottom of it, and it leads to where it leads to. You know, it’s rare that I’ve been on a set where it feels like it crackles. It’s pretty amazing. I want to have an experience. I don’t call it a job. I don’t say that I have a job. I have a gig, or a piece, or a film, or a show, but it’s never a job. We’re having an experience on Joker. People haven’t seen how the Joker becomes the Joker. And oh, my God, man, it’s incredible. It really is.”

Joker centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Todd Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.

Joker is set for release on October 4th 2019 and stars Joaquin Phoenix (The Sisters Brothers), Robert De Niro (Goodfellas), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Brett Cullen (Narcos), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), Marc Maron (GLOW), Josh Pais (Motherless Brooklyn), and Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island).
