Kate Beckinsale, Jason Sudeikis and more join Charlie Day’s El Tonto

October 7, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Deadline is reporting that Kate Beckinsale (Underworld), Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses), Edie Falco (The Sopranos), John Malkovich (The ABC Murders) and Jillian Bell (Rough Night) are in talks to star in El Tonto, the directorial debut of Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

El Tonto, which is also scripted by Day, will see him taking on the role of “a mute simpleton who gets off a bus in Los Angeles and by happenstance suddenly rises through the Hollywood scene to become a celebrity, only to then lose it all.” Beckinsale will play a Hollywood star, with Sudeikis as a film director.

Production on El Tonto is set to get underway later this month in Los Angeles, with John Rickard (Horrible Bosses) and Alex Saks (The Florida Project) producing.
