J.K. Simmons joins Veronica Mars revival

November 19, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

TV Line is reporting that Hulu’s Veronica Mars revival has added some Oscar-winning talent, with J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Justice League) signing on for a recurring role in the new season.

According to the site, Simmons will take on the role of Clyde Prickett, “an ex-con who served 10 years for racketeering, and was smart enough to be the first guy in Chino to offer protection to Neptune’s richest real estate developer, Big Dick Casablancas (David Starzyk), on Big Dick’s first day in prison. Now a free man, Clyde works as Big Dick’s fixer. He’s the smarter and more dangerous of the pair, and he has a network of fellow ex-cons he can count on to keep his own hands clean.”

The new season of Veronica Mars picks up five years after the 2014 movie and will run for eight episodes. Kristen Bell is back in the title role alongside Jason Dohring (Logan), Francis Capra (Weevil), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), David Starzyk (Richard Casablancas), Enrico Colanti (Keith Mars), Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablanca) and Max Greenfield (Leo), while new additions include Clifton Collins Jr. (Westworld), Izabela Vidovic (Wonder), Kirby Howell-Baptise (Killing Eve), Dawnn Lewis (A Different World) and Patton Oswalt (Happy!).

In the revival, spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica (Bell) is drawn into an epic mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.

The new season of Veronica Mars is expected to hit Hulu in 2019.
