The Flickering Myth Reaction to the Avengers: Endgame trailer

December 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The Flickering Myth writing team reacts to the Avengers: Endgame trailer…

After a long, anxious wait, we got our first look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Decimation yesterday as Marvel Studios unleashed the teaser trailer for Avengers 4, now officially titled Avengers: Endgame. Read on for our writing team’s thoughts on the trailer…

George Chrysostomou: Absolutely loving the direction this film is going in and whilst the trailer didn’t reveal too much about the rumoured plot, there were still some significant teases in here that’ll satisfy people for a while. Ronin is looking great and is the best part of this trailer!

Matt Spencer-Skeen: Great first trailer, creating the hype and showing us only a few faces and very little info. I like the focus on Cap and Stark as they’ve been at the heart of so much and of whats made the films go and hopefully this can be a really great exit for them.

Shaun Munro: I can’t believe they actually called it “Endgame“. Sounds like a bad PS2 game. The actual content of the trailer looks spectacular though.

James Turner: Ditto Shaun, I feel I’ll still be calling it Infinity War Part 2 for a while, but damn it looks good.

Shaun Munro: I was hoping they’d troll everyone and stick with Avengers 4 or “Untitled Avengers Project“, maybe only releasing the proper title in the end credits.

EJ Moreno: We’ve been a longtime hater of the MCU, but it seems like Infinity War will be my movie in this franchise. I am shook by this trailer for Endgame as it teases the perfect amount, while still selling viewers on what’s to come. So much drama, which is all I’ve asked for from this franchise! Can’t wait.

Allen Christian: We allegedly weren’t told the title for so long because it would be a spoiler. I don’t see what “Endgame” could possibly spoil. Trailer looks great, though. But now I’m hoping against hope that this isn’t a time travel story.

Gary Collinson: Without giving anything away to those who might not be familiar with the rumours, this seems to confirm them as legit.

Tom Beasley: I am underwhelmed by this, but I’m oddly happy about that. The marketing for this movie has so little work to do that I would rather they kept it minimal, which is very much the order of the day here. There’s almost no plot, but plenty of time for introspection from characters we know and love. It’s those characters that sell this film, not the inevitable Quantum Realm/Soul Stone/Captain Marvel shenanigans that will save the day. I am baffled as to why they made us wait for Endgame though – a title everyone guessed immediately. They may as well have told us it was called Avengers: John Harrison.

Cameron Frew: Stunned (as expected). The teaser is spot-on; doesn’t give too much away, has some of that classic Marvel humour, and effectively captures the unequivocal loss and devastation of the world we’ll soon return to.

Scott Watson: OH Snap… as Tom mentioned above, there’s really no need to go overboard on the marketing of this one as the film sells itself (to me anyway). A teaser that sets the scene perfectly for Endgame and superb to see Ronin in the mix. Nice lighter hearted end too, just to remind us that it isn’t going to be all doom and gloom.
