While FOX continues to develop its two 24 spinoffs – one focussing on a young, pre-CTU Jack Bauer, and the other a female-led legal drama, we now have word that the real-time thriller series is heading to Japan for a local remake.
According to a report from Kotaku, TV Asahi has secured the rights to create a Japanese remake of the Keifer Sutherland-headlined series, which will take place in Japan in the 2020s.
The show will retain the real-time format and update the events of the first season of the U.S. series, changing the terrorists’ target to that of Japan’s first female prime minister.
Apparantly TV Asahi has spent two years pursuing the rights to the remake for 20th Century Fox, and is looking to capitalise on the original series’ cult following in the country.
